    People who live in large urban areas don't necessarily need to use an outdoor antenna for television reception. In fact, those who live within 25 km (15 miles) of a broadcast station will get great reception from an indoor tv antenna. 

    There are two kinds of indoor tv antennas to pick up different signals. The traditional, telescoping “rabbit ear” antennas are designed to pick up VHF signals, whereas circular or bow tie antennas pick up UHF signals. If you wish to receive both VHF and UHF channels, make sure your antenna has both elements in the design. 

    Once you've set up your indoor antenna, it will need some tweaking to get the best reception. Once you've made an adjustment, you'll need to give it a few minutes to lock into the new signal position before the results are known. Here are some tips to improve reception. 

    1.Give it a clear path.  Most people place their indoor antenna on top of or next to the television itself. However, this can create obstructions and interference from walls and other equipment. Being closer to the tv doesn't actually create a good picture. Instead, give your antenna a clear path to receive over the air signals by placing it next to a window. 

    2.Avoid electronic interference.  The antenna signal can be interrupted by other electronics such as dvd players, stereo equipment and computers. Try to avoid putting your antenna too close to these items. Instead, give it a home of its own where it can pick up and transmit broadcast signals without fighting for air wave space.

    3.Keep the cords under control. The longer the signal has to travel, the weaker the signal becomes. Keep the coax cables as short as possible, and use a quality RG6 cable for best results. Shortening cables does not mean winding up the unused portion. The signal still has to travel the full length of the cable. Therefore, use a cable that's just long enough to do the job.
