BEFORE THE CHALLENGE

Before the challenge, I ate a lot of junk and fast food.  I didn’t think about what I was putting in my body or why.  I started to realize the weight I was putting on and that I had been wasting my days on the couch.  Eating healthy sounded like a lot of work and I had no motivation for an exercise routine.
My mom had heard me complain and saw my depression grow when talking about my weight and self confidence.  She approached me about the challenge.  This was my chance to prove to myself I was ready for a change, a better me.  I owe my mom a lot, I never would have come in on my own for fear of failure and judgement.  Neither was the case at all.

DURING THE CHALLENGE

Functional Fitness gave me the tools, knowledge and training I needed; now, I just needed to apply it to my life.  I started to really pay attention to what I was eating and why, enjoying meal time along with healthy cooking.
I completely cut out soda and traded it for water.  I was drinking at least half my body weight in ounces per day.  I also added breakfast to my daily menu and attended Functional Fitness 3 days a week.  I didn’t tell myself I couldn’t have certain things, I just said I didn’t want them or the empty, heavy feeling they left me with.
Once the challenge started, I honestly loved every part of it — reading labels, making healthy meals, and especially workout days at Functional Fitness.  I love the reward of energy I would feel after the workouts.

GREATEST BENEFIT

The greatest benefit I have received from Functional Fitness and the Transformation Challenge si the general happiness and strength I feel, inside & out.  I’m happy knowing I’m improving my life and that the trainers are here to help you.  Taking part in the challenge helped me realize change is possible, with just a little determination and a great workout program.

ADVICE FOR OTHERS

No regrets.  You’re a strong person just for trying.  This workout is fun and motivational — not boring and monotonous like others.  You imght not get it over night, that’s okay.  The trainers are here to give good guidance and encouragement.  The rewards are endless.  It’s not just weight loss and muscle gain, it’s so much more.  Don’t give up on yourself.  You’re worth it.  I dare you to feel good.

When did you start training with Functional Fitness?

I began my journey with Functional Fitness in their Transformation Challenge in September 2012. I started training after my husband started training with Functional Fitness. After hearing him talk positively about the workouts and about the trainers I decided I would give it a try. I figured having someone holding me accountable for getting up and moving in the morning would help, which it has. It is now one of those addictive habits – it has been months since I overslept or couldn’t make it to class for whatever reason.

Why do you continue to train with Functional Fitness?

I continue to train through Functional Fitness because I love the motivation and accountability from the Functional Fitness trainers and from the other members.  I also continue to learn more and more about nutrition – which has become very important to me along with all the different fitness techniques.   And lastly, I enjoy seeing the great results of others and myself.

What have you accomplished since joining Functional Fitness?

Physically I have lost more weight than I ever anticipated. I am much stronger and have more endurance than I have had in the past. I once had back issues with herniated/bulging discs and significant planter fasciitis in both of my feet; both the back and feet issues have disappeared. I feel like that although I have accomplished a ton physically – I feel I have accomplished more mentally. I have learned that you are much stronger you think you are. Beginning is the first step and if you are truly committed the rest becomes falls into place and becomes easier with time.

What has made you successful?

I think I have been successful because I don’t skip the workouts; I listen to the trainers, and follow their nutrition advice. I also find new ways to challenge myself in areas of nutrition and training, i.e. Tough Mudder. I would have never dreamed of doing a Tough Mudder event but now I can’t wait to do another one.
The biggest benefit I get with Functional Fitness is the amount of knowledge I have gained in regards to nutrition.  I also enjoy other fantastic members who have the same goals as I do, the trainers who care for their clients, and the endorphins you get after an early morning workout.
I currently take an Omega 3 vitamin and probiotic supplement daily. I use a protein powder before workouts or as a meal replacement as needed.  I also like to take the pro/grade VGF as well.

What advice would you give to others?

Advice I would give to someone wanting to get started into a regular exercise routine would be don’t start tomorrow – take a deep breath that start now.  There is no better time to start than right now.  It has been over a year and I still have to “reset” myself – we all have our off days but take that deep breath and get back on track.  Your future self will thank you!

How long have you been training with Functional Fitness?

I have been working with Functional Fitness since February 2012.  I started training with Trevor and have also been working with Dustin since he joined the team of coaches.
I continue to train at Functional Fitness because of the support and expertise I get from these awesome, caring people.  Training has become a part of my life and the people at Functional Fitness have become family.

What have you accomplished since joining Functional Fitness?

After doing strength training at Functional Fitness, I am able to do my own housework.  I train for an hour and walk two miles twice a week.  I needed to lose some weight to take some of the pressure off my knees.  I joined Weight Watchers, but was losing slowly.  When I started training, the weight came off fast.  I have lost 79 pounds.  I would not have been able to reach my goals without the support, nutritional advice, and training experts I get at Functional Fitness.

I have bilateral total knee replacements.  Before I started training, I could barely walk a block.  One of my biggest challenges and frustrations was being able to do my housework.  I had to hire a housekeeper which created an extra expense.  Now I know I can accomplish my fitness and health goals with the help and guidance of the trainers at Functional Fitness.  My self esteem and self confidence have improved ten times of what it was.

Why did you join Functional Fitness?

I joined the Community Center to increase my walking ability.  I was looking for a trainer to help me with an exercise plan, so I wouldn’t hurt my knees.  I was walking with my daughter Vicky Kuehn.  Trevor was at the center and Vicky wanted me to meet him.  I did an interview with him and decided to start training.  I have never regretted that decision.  I would not have been able to reach my goals without the support, nutritional advice and training experts I get at Functional Fitness.  It has become a lifestyle change.

What advice do you have for others looking to become healthier?

My advice to anyone that wants to lose weight and get started on a regular exercise routine is what are you waiting for?  The rest of your life starts now.  Join Functional Fitness and let these talented, awesome, and caring people help you.  It may save your life.  It has saved mine.

Member of the Month – September 2013

How long have you been a member of Functional Fitness?

I started July 2011, one month after Trevor started Functional Fitness.

What have you accomplished since working with Functional Fitness?

I have lost over 45 pounds, gone from a size 16 to a 10 and overall feel so much better!!

Why have you been successful?

Trevor and his staff have lead by example, met me where I was at and taught me how to hold myself accountable for my health and well-being and enjoy it at the same time!!  I have learned to change my eating habits.  (No more 8 oreos and milk in the middle of the night.)

Why do you continue to train with Functional Fitness?

1.  I feel so much better physically, mentally and emotionally.
2.  It has become a habit.
3.  You can be social or private in the sessions and it feels okay.
4.  I want to keep working on my flexibility and strength to keep up with my granddaughter — and as Trevor would say, we need to learn to move the right way, like a baby.
5.  I notice many farming and household tasks are a lot easier to do.
6.  Every day/week we are doing a different exercise.
7.  Staff are always positive and passionate about what they do.
8.  All the class options and times.
9.  They provide different levels to accommodate all fitness levels at once.
10.  The music (I love the 80s!).
11.  I like the way my clothes fit.
12.  It helps me keep grounded at work.
13.  I have more energy.
14.  It is something my husband and I can do together.
15.  I feel sore some days and still want to come back.
16.  Staff are willing to listen to new ideas or comments and make changes as they see fit.
17.  It’s a place you can make new friends, encourage and welcome strangers, and rekindle old friendships.
18.  I don’t think I have been sick since I started (Wow!).
19.  I am still making progress.
20.  Functional Fitness gives back to the community and their members in a creative way.

How long have you been a member of Functional Fitness?

I started training with Functional Fitness in August 2012.

Why do you continue to train with Functional Fitness?

I feel as though Functional Fitness really cares.  There are always new challenges in the exercises.

What have you accomplished since working with Functional Fitness?

I have lost 30 pounds since I began almost a year ago.  I can do push-ups when I never could before.  I also have much more energy which allows me to be more active outside of our workouts.
tell us about your frustrations prior to working with functional fitness.  how has your mindset changed?
I didn’t want to diet at all.  I now am able to view it, not as a diet, but as making better choices.  I have healthier habits incorporated into my routine now as well.

What made you decide to start training?

This might sound dumb, but I liked how a friend of mine looked, so I thought I would give it a try.  Also, I was truly tired of the way I felt.  I have had a few medical issues and I would rather try exercising and living a healthier lifestyle than try more medications.
My entire lifestyle change has helped ease my medical conditions.  Even more than my weight loss, this has been one of the greatest benefits I have experienced since I joined Functional Fitness.

Why have you been successful?

I have to give the coaches at Functional Fitness a lot of credit for my success!  The knowledge, guidance, and positive support of Functional Fitness, my family and friends is huge!

What advice would you give to others looking to lose weight or just live a healthier lifestyle?

Be patient.  It does not happen overnight.  You truly need to stick to it and you will get out what you put in.  When people ask me what I did, I tell them that I worked my butt off and made better food choices.  Give it at least 2 months before you really start to notice your body changing.
